VOLUMINUM
VOLUMINUM (2023) is a large scale composition in homage to Hungarian Composer György Ligeti for concert hall organ, bass and electric guitars, harp and a large percussion section.
The work was premiered in 2023 on the centenary of the composers birth, alongside a performance of Ligeti’s ground breaking organ solo, ‘Volumina’ (1966).
Voluminum explories the energy specific to the grand organ alongside more modern instruments. Developing from the strong influence of Ligeti’s work on Hope’s own, the work transforms Ligeti’s mass textural effects by adding amplified guitars, radical harp and large percussion including timpani and large gongs.
The work is performed in synchronisation with the scrolling animated score, and close up of the organist hands.
“a carnal bacchanal of sound. Five out of Five stars”, Limelight review, 2023.
